Today I want to talk about health benefits of QiGong and in particular how Qi-Gong can help you to quit addictions like smoking, coffee or alcohol.
In my personal experience qigong practice helps to reconnect with the body and as such be more aware of its necessities. I remember after my first month of Zhang Zhuang practice my body told me to quit coffee and alcohol right away. This was not a kind of forced fasting ruled by the mind but rather a happy pattern changing ruled by my body. I was happy to not to consume coffee and beer anymore! And when I consumed them in small amounts I had the opportunity to enjoy them even more (better for my wallet as well).
Let's see what Wikipedia has to say about benefits of Qigong: "Qigong is commonly prescribed to treat a wide variety of conditions, and clinical applications include hypertension, coronary artery disease, peptic ulcers, chronic liver diseases, diabetes mellitus, obesity, menopause syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, tumors and cancer, lower back and leg pain, cervical spondylosis, and myopia" How is that possible and how does that relate to my experience of quitting coffee. In the first place, qi-gong exercises definitely open the qi meridian system, described in detail by TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). This, in turn, improves the endorphin system and regulates all body functions. What I want to underline is the fact that the exercises give us a chance to REALLY feel what is going on in our body, and take the appropriate action. In other words, qi-gong exercises give us the opportunity to reconnect with our inner force for the diagnosis and remedy of our physical and energy bodies. The best thing is that it makes it in a joyful way without forcing things. This is what helped me to quit coffee, improve my diet naturally and this is what will help you to find out how to create a more harmonious body.
